How do I see a list of files in my root?

I logged into putty and left at this command prompt

[root@domainname root] #

I type in dir and is just gives me

install.log install.log.syslog psa

I type in ls and it just gives me the same thing execpt psa is in blue

I am trying to get to the config.php file or the conf directory.

I type in find filename and it says No such file or directory

HELP

I just want to try to turn off safe mode in PHP so I can install a program called x-cart. (www.x-cart.com). Anyone have any direction. Thanks

try these commands from the command line interface:

locate config.php

or

find / -name config.php

or

which config.php

All are different ways of location files in *nix
