QMAIL debugging

When I check the /etc/xinetd.d/smtp_psa , I notice that a whole bunch of programs are called when mail is being accepted.
Well, I try to send a sample mail, I get connected, and I get "temporary failure".
How can I debug this in qmail? The maillogs show NOTHING, likewise for messages and secure files
