Restoring from backup

When i do a full restore my sites data is restored but if i do a restore by domain the data is not being restored. Any ideas?
 
So far i have found out that i have to completely delete the domain to restore it, but if this is the case what would be the point of having client repositories? They cannot restore their data be clicking the restore button in the control panel!
