  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Samba file server

Asparagus

New Pleskian
Hi, I'm having problems understanding the process for file server setup - the documentation was a little thin.

So I've enabled the module and setup a share pointing to a folder inside a hosted domain. I've then created a user and applied that user to the share access.

At this stage it reads as though I should now be able to access from windows \\domain\ user and password.

I get the windows login box appear but the credentials aren't accepted. Have I missed anything?

Also:

1. How do You manage rights on that share in terms of maximum file space to limit it for my customers. Like you can with webspace

2. Should I be able to set which folders a user can access inside the share or is it just read or write control.

Basically I have a requirement to host documents for a client, some are for internal view only others for general access. Any help is appreciated.

Have you checked logs in /var/log/samba/ ?

Usually when this happen, problem is with access to the samba itself, so you need to add your IP/Network range within Plesk.

Little update.

I've manage to figure it out how you can limit disk space on samba shared.

So basically, when you're doing process of creating new samba share, you're selecting SYSTEM USER when creating new user right? That system user is FTP user of your subscription.

After that being said, we come to this: enter control panel of your subscription -> Websites & Domains -> FTP access -> select user you linked to samba shared user -> Hard quota on disk space.

You will probably see there checkbox marked (UNLIMITED), so enter value on your own. For testing purposes, I've entered value 10 (MB) and really...it is working! Good luck.

If I find something else, I will let you know.
