Server Hacked, need location of ssh/ftp connections log files

I just had my server hacked 2 times.

I want to know where I can locate the logs of SSH connections and FTP connections.

check out /var/log/secure and /var/log/messages

but it is secured ? because then you can avoid this problems, at least in the future.
