Skeleton with images

I have tried this and then looked around for why this isn't working but haven't found anything yet. Basically I want to create a custom skeleton but have images in it. Thought it would be pretty easy so I created the documents and zipped up everything including the images and activated it. Now the layouts are correct but my images are broken.

The image files are in the right place and I checked the code and that’s good to.

Any suggestions or can this just not be done? I'd rather not have to have a absolute URL http://www.mydomain.com/images/image.jpg
