SSL Issues

I am having a few difficulties with SSL installation and functionality and need some advice.
My set up is that I am on a cloud server from 1and1 with 6 IP addresses and 20+ domains. (great server)

I have a default SSL cert (used to secure the plesk panel remote log on) which is not working correctly (certificate error shown in Browser) and a couple of specific site SSL certs to secure a .com domain and a .is domain. Both sites are on the same IP

The first issue is getting the default certificate to work, there is no certificate request, there is a private key and there is a certificate. there is no CA certificate. I think to make this work correctly I guess I need a CA cert but where do I get it from?

The second issue is regarding the .com and .is domains. The symptoms are identical so I will describe the environment and results for just one. A certificate request was created for mydomain.com and a private key generated. A certificate was purchased from an external authority. When installing the certificate I get "Error: Unable to set the certificate: Incompatible private key/certificate pair." I have also tried loading the appropriate CA certificate at the same time but with the same result.

I am beginning to feel that this problem is caused by having two sites on the same IP and probably having a default certificate as well because a browser access of either of the domains through an https request brings up a certificate error and further investigation shows that the cert being presented is the plesk default certificate.

I would appreciate some guidance here.
