Subdomain Naming Conventions - three questions

1. Is it possible to change the naming convention for subdomains in Plesk?

Currently, subdomain url naming convention is:

http://subdomain.domain.com

I'd like the url to read:

http://domain.com/subdomain
or,
http://domain.subdomain.com

Can this be done?

2. The subdomain is NOT available by http://www.subdomain.com. What needs to be done in order for the subdomain to be accessed without the domain designation in the URL?

3. note the http://subdomain.domain.com - standard Plesk domain naming convention - cannot be accessed by http://www.subdomain.domain.com - why is adding the "www" a problem?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response. Cleared up a couple points.

So, my follow-up question(s) are:

1. I purchased two domain names through GoDaddy.

The first domain is a second level domain (parent).

The second domain is a third level domain (or, subdomain of the first (child)).

Question:
Using Plesk, I set up the second Domain name as a subdomain on my server - Why can I not access the domain as http://www.thirdleveldomain.com, but only as http://www.thirdleveldomain.secondleveldomain.com?

In order to access http://www.thirdleveldomain.com, do I need to forward the DNS entry to the sub domain url http://www.thirdleveldomain.secondleveldomain.com?
