  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Issue Switch domains in Plesk

FRib

New Pleskian
Hello,

I am not experienced with Plesk and was faced with the challenge of creating a WordPress website in an existing webspace.

There is a website that needed to be replaced by the new WordPress one.

example_A.webspace.com is the existing website.
example_B.webspace.com is the new WordPress website.

I have example_B ready to be used but I would like the adress to be the same as before. Example_A would be deleted/deactivated.

Can this be done? I tried renaming example_A to example_A_old. When I tried to access it, I got an error ("...You see this page because there is no Web site at this address."). I tried renaming it back to example_A and I get the same error message.

I am now afraid that there isn't a simple solution and I will have to delete domain and files and redo the WordPress website.

What can I do to make this as simple as possible?

Thank you!

If both websites are within the same subscription then you could use the Wordpress Toolkit to clone the staging Wordpress to the live website:
WordPress Toolkit

Works like a charm, did that myself many times.

Thank you, Monty, for your quick reply.

And what would be the best way to deal with the existing (obsolete) website? Backup the files, delete the domain and then redo it with the Wordpress clone?

As I mentioned, I have absolutely no experience and I'm only doing this because it is an "emergency" and I don't have time to hire someone so, thank you for you patience.

Yes, I would:
  1. Create a backup of your old website, either using Plesk Backup manager or manually by downloading everything in /httpdocs and exporting all associated databases
  2. Empty the httpdocs folder of the destination (!) website
  3. Clone the source (staging) website to the destination website using WPT
To practice, you could create a new subdomain first and clone the staging website to that new subdomain first. That way you can make yourself familiar with the procedure and you can test if everything works as expected.
