Trouble redirecting domains

Does anyone know a solution for this problem:

I have a domain named "domain.nl"
and another domain named: "domain.com"

domain.nl is redirected to domain.com/nl

When i want to access images/image.jpg

domain.com/nl/images/image.jpg works
domain.nl/images/image.jpg does not.

So basically when you use redirect, the rest of the URL is not parsed?
