  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Resolved Unable to send/ receive mails and access webmail

New Pleskian
Hi there, I'm hoping someone can assist a NooB that just started testing out Plesk.

I am trying to send and receive mails as well access Roundcube to view the mailbox I set up, but I am failing in all respects.

I have a domain registered with an external DNS provider and have updated the DNS records on the external DNS provider to my DO droplet's IP. Setting up a domain and a installing Wordpress testsite runs fine and points to the domain name and can view the site via the domain name in my browser.

I was also successfully able to add the account to Outlook and Windows 10's basic mail client but just can't send or receive through them. There's also no activity in the mail account when checking the mailbox entry on Plesk.

When I try and access webmail using the link provided it gives a webmail.*********.co.za's server IP could not be found

Please let me know what I'm doing wrong and if someone can assist.

Check that you have an A record assigned to webmail.*********.co.za
If so does the IP address look correct, should be the same as the domain A record.

The above is my Plesk DNS server settings. I'm not sure if this should even be running according to the docs since my external DNS host is where I would create records. Correct me if I'm wrong. The left column has just the domain name redacted. The right column has both the droplet IP and domain redacted. This is also the default DNS template automatically provided by Plesk, so nothing was changed

The above are the DNS settings on my external DNS hosting provider. The top 3 records were updated with the droplet's IP address. The bottom 3 NS records have not been changed as they reflect the external DNS provider's IP addresses.

I'm really still a noob when it comes to managing DNS settings. I hope the above will help in identifying the problem.

Turn off DNS for that domain in Plesk.
Add an A record for the host 'webmail' on your external DNS.

Any reason why you cant manage DNS in Plesk, it simplifies things if you're new to hosting.

I actually did try that but didn't seem to work. May it needs time to propagate? When I updated the other A records it took almost no time to update.

We are currently running a managed server with our current hosting provider who are also the registrar for all our current domains. We are looking to run a self-managed server at some point with them and are looking at using Plesk as the control panel since the self-managed server will not provide any other than the OS we need like CentOS 7, etc.

When we do move over we will still have access to their proprietary control panel to manage DNS settings and domain registrations, so it's something I will have to work with. Plesk also doesn't seem to handle .co.za domain registrations as we are South African based.

It's working now. I created a new mailbox after the changes were made and the mailbox plus webmail seem to be working.
