Make sure you shut down smtp service and manually browse to the smtp queue folder to erase all email that could be stuck there. Once you have erase email with the looping from and to issue, you will be good.
I had the same problem, disabling the event prevent mailenable to create the emails in the queue with the same recipient from and to, thus the loop. but if you have hundreds or thousands of those email stuck in the queue you will still receive them in the mailbox.
If this doesn't help then you probably have a other problem then what i had.
