I'd like to upgrade our existing Plesk 7.5.4 system running on FreeBSD v4.10, to Plesk 8.1 running on FreeBSD v6.1.
We have an existing production system with less than 100 domains, and we would like to migrate the sites and all settings as quickly and easily as possible to the modern platforms.
Does anyone have any advice from having completed a similar process?
Here is what we have tried so far.
We have tried upgrading from FreeBSD 4.10 to 5.3 by cvsupping source. This did not succeed, and ran into various errors so far on the OS level.
We tried installing Plesk v7.5.4 onto a copy of FreeBSD 6.1, but it gave an error message indicating that our version of Perl (installed from ports) was too new.
At this point, our next step might be as follows :
- upgrade the production FreeBSD 4.x box to Plesk v8.1
- backup the Plesk installation to another box
- do a clean install of FreeBSD 6.1 onto the box
- install Plesk v8.1
- Restore using the backup we made
Any suggestions or insights would be appreciated!
