yum update - guide

I have scoured this forum for info on how to get yum update to work. Lots of posts but every way I turn I get some form of dependency error.

Anyone know how to get around the php-xslt dependency?


If it helps, here is the command output:

I havent put that out yet. Also you really dont want to use Project Gamera alongside PSA, they arent compatible.

ok, how do I update to a point that will work? For example 4.3.10 perhaps or is that not possible and I have to update individual items?

Try this tutorial, it explains how to update php using ART's repository and you can apply the same concept to just about every package more or less.

Ok php is already up to date but thanks for the plug.

I REALLY do not understand the concept behind this. Great tool in that all you need to type is "yum update"... if it works! What am I missing here?

If just one dependency stops the update... whats the point? Should it not update to a level where there are no dependencies? Then when the next level is clear for dependencies yum runs to that update level.

It just seems to me that every where I go I get a dependency error.

Bit frustrating.

yes it really is that easy. If you do run into dependency issues, thats because the maintainer (me in this case) did something wrong.
