I am thinking of attempting the update from the latest 8.1 release to 8.2 and have seen many issues that people have had.

My question is this... What proccess should I take to do the upgrade? Should I go ahead and do it or should I wait. I have plesk installed as a VPS on Fedora Core 6 through my hosting company.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

I have the exact same dilemma.

I'd like to update to the latest version but it seems there's a very good chance the update will fail.

Has anyone perfected a safe set of upgrade preparations that will result in a smooth update yet? Or are most of us waiting for 8.2.1?

100% Wait for 8.2.x, or try a fresh install (clean server, no upgrade).

otherwise you will have always problems with a plesk-upgrade.

Has anyone even managed a trouble-free upgrade yet? Has anyone from SWsoft commented about all the issues people are encountering with these upgrades?

I think it's pretty bad they are still offering up this as a recommended upgrade when it simply doesn't work. They should pull the upgrade links until they are sure and confident it wont destroy the hosting environments of customers running their software.

My upgrade on FreeBSD 6 and from Plesk 8.1.1 to the new 8.2 went pretty smooth without any major problems.

I have. I installed 4x Plesk 8.1.1 servers a few days before 8.2.0 was even announced/

2 of those were live and another 2 not yet live.

So I thought well lets see what happen if I upgrade the 2 that is not live.

In the process I updated both with 0 problems and the 1 that went live with a few clients on already by accident.

Lucky for us all 3 upgraded perfectly with 0 problems.

Some facts:
- OS is Centor 4.4
- We use a custom PHP manager so that clients can switch between centos's php 4.3.9 and a fast cgi version of PHP 5.
- All use centralized DNS servers via Expand
- All of them use centralized windows mail servers which run smartermail 4.x

I think after the upgrade I just had to reload the plesk/dns/mail servers in expand and everything discontinued to work fine.

I also expiremented on getting Ruby on Rails to work and its pretty easy with Plesk 8.2.0 except that I have no nice way of getting it to work for clients. For example I hate this url:
http://plesk03.glodns.net/cookbook/public/hello/list
