Accessing Domain without Changing DNS?

Hi,

We have two Plesk servers. One we have a web application on, written in Ruby on Rails. We are transferring that domain over to the other Plesk server. Our problem is that we want to test to make sure the program works on the new server, but do not want to transfer the program over, then change the DNS to have something go wrong.

Is there anyway to add say, mydomain.com, to the new plesk server, then copy the application over, and test it out. Without ever changing the domain DNS from the old server to the new server. Sort of test it out, then if everything checks out, change the DNS on the domain to the new server and cancel the old one.

Thanks for your help,

-Erik

edit your /etc/hosts file and enter the IP address and domain name.

You can also edit this on windows:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

I usually just add it in my windows box and fool my browser into looking at my server instead of the real DNS
