Does anyone know how to add a path to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable please? Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

on the prompt:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/new/dir:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

For bash/ksh/zsh/sh shells this can also be easily done editing the file ~/.profile.

Thanks Eilko ,

I am currently using VPS remotely, which is using Fedora Core 2. I tried to psftp to do the things but it didn't work. May I have further instruction for that please? Also I need to install a file, which it is the file i need to add its path to the environment variable, to the /usr/lib directory in my VPS, but the permission for the directory is 755 rather than 777, so I couldn't upload it. I also couldn't change the permission by chmod. Do you have any idea to solve this problem as well?

Many thanks,

Best regards,
Joe

Sorry again

I have download the file .bash_profile and added belwo information into the file.

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr\/bin\/libCcCpiTools.so/dir:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

where the libCcCpiTools.so is the file I need to install in the /usr/lib directory.

Is this correct please?

if the file is in /usr/local/lib/ then you need:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

if the file is in some other path you need to change /usr/local/lib with that other path.

Hi eilko thanks,

I have used echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH, but nothing comes out, is it right?
