• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
    If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Backup Problem

Since i've upgraded the backup ftp facility, it returns the following message Failed to write test data to the FTP account ftp://backup107.xxxxxxxx-server.info//: delete error: Failed to establish connection.

Even though all details are correct.

The backup's I set up in 8.0 work fine, ftp'd to the backup server without a hitch, but any ftp repository I try setup returns the the above error.

I also experience same problem. FTP backup worked fine with 8.0 but with the same FTP login information, it no longer works with 8.1.

I am using Redhat Enterprise 4 update 4

Hi, same for me. I didn't used it on 8.0.1 but I've got this error on 8.1 with Debian sarge 3.1.

And the ftp account is usable with other ftp sofwares...

Maybe it comes from firewall ??? I'll try to add a passive mode rule to it... :confused:

Hi, I also have problem with backups:

When I use Local Repository - it's all ok. But when I use FTP Repository, I become error near backup file - Plesk show that file is "not a backup file". The size of file is ok, the name is also ok, FTP options are also ok, but Plesk show this backuped file as "not a backup file". and I can,t click backup file and download on my computer.

I have this system: suse 10, plesk 8.1

Maybe someone had similar problem and could help me?

I take it your a 1and1 client.
i had a very simmiler problem a few days ago. i disabled the updating and when i ftp'd to the backup server (afaik 205) to my horror all of my folders/backups etc had vanished! not sure if this was plesk's doing or 1and1 but i did notice that the free space indicator in the 1and1 controlpanel disapeared also.

Have u tried using CLI ftp client on your box directly?

Hello DavidCollom, that's very strange because i had a quite similar problem and i'm also a 1&1 client:
A few days ago, i received a warning email from plesk that informed me that one of my domain failed to be backuped and the ftp program failed to "cwd" into the right folder.
I went straight to the ftp server using ssh and was surprised that everything has gone away.
I phoned to 1&1 to know what happened and a guy told me it could be Plesk because of the backup software which doesn't work very well.
So I lost everything on my ftp backup server even what i didn't create with the backup software.
And i also noticed that my ftp free space counter in the 1&1 controlpanel was not working properly : just after I lost everything it showed me 0 MB free and was counting down (- 2 MB; -10 MB) when i added stuff. ~2 days later the problem with the counter was fixed.

I'm getting tired of these plesk backup software problems and the only reason i'm still using it is because it can backup everything on a domain (including e-mail addresses and databases). So if someone knows another solution I would be very interested.

I was thinking about creating a php script to move the backup dumps onto a ftp backup server and quite possably Sftp... if their is some interest i may develop this.

Right now i'm looking on internet for some informations about how to create a Rsync solution for backuping my domains, but later i will also need to backup my databases and i don't know how to do right now (except using phpmyadmin but i don't want that).

Hello,

Yes I am a 1&1 customer but so far nothing has been deleted.. (finger crossed)

I now get this error (from a backup I setup pre 8.1)

Error in UploadToRepositoryState.doActivityRunner()
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/local/psa/admin/share/agent_runner/agent_runner.py", line 97, in doActivityRunner
newState = self.doActivity()
File "/usr/local/psa/admin/share/agent_runner/agent_runner.py", line 411, in doActivity
remotefh = remoteBackupFile.fh('wb')
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'fh

Really think I need another (automated) backup solution as the plesk one is starting to make me nervous.

P.s anyone who knows the above error please egt back to me :)

@ albc... How do you get the script to work as there doesn't seem to be any documentation.

R

I'm facing the same problem on Godaddy Virtual Dedicated Linux Server. The FTP backup server works properly with SSH (using putty). Plesk cannot connect with it (Error: Failed to write test data to the FTP account ftp://xx.xx.xx.xx//: Failed FTP upload: 450) and it doesn't recognize the current files as valid backup files on ftp repository.

If somebody find a solution please post!

We have also found this to be a problem on Fedora systems. We have held back our CentOS production systems at this point. Still waiting on a solution to the failed FTP backups, unfortunately.

Error... because version 8 user 2 connexion and not only one... Your Backup FTP server accept only one, no ?

Actually, as it turns out, removing the leading "/" character from the host directory fixed the problem.

In our case, the / was the only thing in the field. Removing that and just leaving the filed blank solved the issue.

Maybe that will help somebody else.

i had a smiler problem a few days ago, deleting/moving the backups to another directory and then making a new backup fixed it for me for a few days, the latest hotfix fixed this problem for me, so mebbies a clean folder is needed? not sure
