• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If you'd like to be part of the discovery process and share your experiences, we invite you to complete this short screening survey. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Can we use Plesk-created DNS server as a general DNS server?

HWSager

New Pleskian
We know that Plesk panel creates and maintains a DNS server on our server for all the sites that are Plesk-controlled on our server. Can we use this DNS server as a general DNS server by manually adding Zone files to it for sites that we are hosting elsewhere in the world, unrelated to the local hosting company?

Yes, just add new domain to a subscribtion and select hosting type as No Hosting, then you will be able to handle it without hosting

Adding New Domain Name > Hosting type:
-No hosting: Do not host a website at the moment, only set up the DNS service for serving the domain name. This allows setting up hosting service later or use this domain name for email hosting.

Thanks! Your answer is almost definitive (and what we were hoping for), but your final statement "This allows setting up hosting service later or use this domain name for email hosting" made me wonder slightly, thinking that such services would have to be on the same server as this Plesk-created DNS server (by Plesk policy). So, to be totally clear on this (or "to be crystal on this" as the British would say), will this Plesk-created DNS server allow us to add DNS zones and records pointing to services (hosting, e-mail) elsewhere in the world, unrelated to this hosting server? This is not a general DNS question (where the answer would be a clear "yes"), but a policy question about this Plesk-created DNS server. We do want to be able to use this Plesk-created DNS server as a general DNS server too, for things not on the local hosting server.
