clean up /root partition - Help!

My / partition has been filling up and I have a few questions related to it. It was up to 78% full and I'm running plesk 8.6.

1. Will it slow down the server when /root fills up?
2. I've removed and changed the directory for the Plesk updater which freed some space. There's also a /swsoft directory and within that there's a PSA_8.3.0 and SSO_2.0 and some files like plesk.inf3 in it. Can I safely remove or move any or all of these files elsewhere?
3. What other files or directories can I safely remove?

I don't want to resize the partition because frankly that sounds dangerous but maybe I'm just being a wuss. Anyone have any experience resizing / or have some wisdom to pass along?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

100% full partitions generally can cause the weirdest problems, so by all means try to avoid partitions filling up completely.

You can delete those. The autoinstaller/Plesk Updater can always download the files it needs.
