  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Resolved CRON Error with user psaadm

Thomas Wilhelmi

Regular Pleskian
Server operating system version
Ububtu 24.04 LTS
Plesk version and microupdate number
18.0.64
Hi,

I have a fresh install from Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64.

In /various/log/syslog I see for every cronjob for user psaadm this error:

cron[2050410]: Authentication failure

In /various/log/auth I see the following line:

unix_chkpwd[2340863]: could not obtain user info (psaadm)

I really would need some help here. Thx.

Best regards

Addendum:

I See that the user psaadm has no password in "/etc/shadow". In the old system it had. Can this be the reason? And what password should I define there? The admin-Password from Plesk?

In /etc/shadow do you see "!" or "!!" in the password column for the psadm user? If you see a single exclamation mark, there shouldn't be an issue. Thus, I would suggest to open a ticket with our support team. (I was unable to reproduce the reported issue on a fresh install of Ubuntu 24.04 with Plesk 18.0.64)

Yes, I do have a /etc/psa/.psa.shadow. This file is updated with the Password-Change-Process described in your link. But I still have no entry for psaadm in /etc/shadow
