Email Problems

I Can't access my server to get POP3 email, neither can any of my clients.

History:
3 weeks ago I added a new address, and the system got confused about handling email, but recovered itself after ~40 minutes. I have no idea what was broken, or what fixed it but the problem as it appeared over those 40 minutes is what I am getting all the time now.

10 days ago I updated the Plesk control pannel to 10.0.0 and then swapped from qmail to postfix, following a suggested change from where the server is hosted. Since then all attempts to access the email have failed.

Email that is forwarded to other addresses is correctly forwarded.

All attempts to get at mail stored in mailboxes fails, both on existing mail accounts and on new ones I have tried to setup. From the error I am seeing in Thunderbird which is: An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server www.wavwebs.com responded: and nothing to follow, suggests to me some sort of authentication error. There is nothing I have found in an logs as to what is happening or why. As I can't get in to fetch mail, I can't send through the system either as have pop before SMTP enabled.

Courier is running 8 processes, though they have have use zero processor time. which is suspicious.

Help and brainwaves welcome.

So in order :

Does it work on webmail?
Does it work through Outlook when using IMAP?
Are your logs (/usr/local/psa/var/log/maillog) showing any errors when you attempt a login?
Have you tried rebuilding the mail accounts? (/usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/mchk --help)

Paul.

Webmail - don't know, I don't use it,
Outlook and Imap - yes (I don't use Outlook but)
the logs have this interesting line for every attempt to access a mail box:

couriertls: accept: error:1408F10B:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version number

Googling finds lots of cases of this, I will try a few of the suggestions later, it would appear that it has lost some config data and has reverted to a wrong default.

Rebuilding did not affect the problems.

Thanks I will investigate more later.

Richard
