Enable Mail Services for a domain without enabling mail on the subscription

Is this even possible?

I have a situation where there are multiple domains in a subscription. I want to enable mail services on only some of the domains.

If I enable mail services at the subscription level, all domains are mail enabled - this breaks mail delivery for those domains that have external email services (e.g. gmail).
