• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Gmail emails are being blocked

New Pleskian
Hi,

For already few weeks, many e-mails sent from our email accounts are being blocked by gmail as you can see on the attachment.
The support said that emails are picking up as spam and ways in which I can reduce this is by setting up rDNS for the server and SPF records for each domain.
Could anyone tell me how to do it via Plesk panel?

Plesk 11/CentOS 6.5

Thanks a lot in advance.

Your email is blocked by GMail because your server is blacklisted on several RBLs and with a record of sending SPAM. NON of the solutions you are given will STOP spam coming from your server :) instead will only help you stop SPAM coming to your server ...

They will of-course accept your emails, as soon as you resolve the SPAM problem and get DE-listed from the RBLs that you are listed on. You can get to see which RBLs have blacklisted you by going to:

http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx

You will also need to contact each RBL you are listed on asking them to de-list you!

Abdi,

Thanks a lot for your help. I've checked that and one another blacklist and I want to say that my IP is clean..

Screen Shot 2014-03-27 at 11.51.44 AM.pngScreen Shot 2014-03-27 at 11.42.25 AM.png

Summarizing this I believe that something else is blocking our emails, isn't it?

Thanks.

It's a very good thing that you are not listed ...

And, I would like to apologize for having not read in-detail your bounce back message (I assumed a blacklist as most of the times holds 90% chances), anyways, having done that, it's true about the reasons your ISP gave you..

Please implement an SPL record + RDNS (just as advised) these will help create trust for your mail server amongst other mail servers ..

To implement RDNS, you will need your ISP to do this for you, if you don't have a PowerPanel where you can do this from ..(This is not and can not be done with Plesk)
While, for SPF records, you can set these settings from your Plesk -> Server settings -> Mail settings ...(and you can read more about this project here: http://www.openspf.org/)

Hi there Jan,

Thanks a lot for your research, it might help me..

Regarding the reverse DNS, seems it happens, because a few weeks ago I changed the IP address for the ideeenlabel.com site (subscription on Plesk panel), previously it was 109.228.12.113 .
Is it necessary to have them identical, I mean rDNS and the ideeenlabel.com's IP?

And the main obstacle at this point to remove my IP from those 3 blacklists, right?

Best regards,
Alex.

Those blacklists should be priority, yes, but sometimes impossible. There are 4 ways to get of a blacklist:

- automaticly after xx time
- after paying xx amount
- after you ask it (sending a mail or so)
- doing it yourself trough there website
- whenever they want

Always after the spam has stopped ofcourse. If you are on a blacklist that has removal policy 5 your in bad luck. You can yell, offer to pay, wait 60 days, whatever, they decide when you go out of it. The more used have an automatic removal policy. At spamcop it is 72 hours after the last spam is seen if im not mistaken.

http://multirbl.valli.org/ has a link to the removal page of that list.

The reverse dns is simple:

A mailserver represents itself to the other mailserver with 2 things: an ip adres and a server name. The server name can be found in

Tools & Settings --> Server Settings --> Full hostname

The ip adres is the first ip adres of the server.

The reverse dns of that name should be the same as the first ip adres of the server.

according to your log, the name of your server is server109-228-12-113.live-servers.net

regards
Jan

Hi Jan,

Sorry, for bothering you, but I'm a total newbie in this kind of things..

As I understand I need to change my "Full hostname" to the first ip address of the server, which is "109.228.12.113".
I've tried to do it, but the Full hostname doesn't accept "109.228.12.113" value, says "Some fields are empty or contain an improper value."

About the different IPs, I forgot to tell that I use different IP for ideeenlabel.com domain (SEO requirement), could it be a reason of the Gmail's error?

Thanks a lot,
Alex.

why would you try to enter an ip address a full hostname?

your full hostname must be the name of the server, the ip address is that what is given to eth0 (if it is linux). The ip address is appointed to you by your provider. The servername is set by yourself trough plesk. Linking both together is precise what reverse dns does and as abdi pointed out correctly: your reverse dns can only be set by the owner of the ip address, (unless you have a control panel where you can set it yourself).

In this case that is

inetnum: 109.228.0.0 - 109.228.19.255
netname: FASTHOSTS-UK-VPS-NETWORK
org: ORG-FHL1-RIPE
descr: Fasthosts Internet Limited - UK's largest web hosting company
descr: based in Gloucester, England
descr: Virtual Servers
country: GB

This isnt a plesk issue, this is a dns configuration issue. Your provider should help you with these issues.

regards
Jan
