• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.

How or do I notify secondary DNS server automatically? [UPDATE #3]

I'm running PLESK 9.2 on Suse with BIND as DNS Server. The Plesk Box is the master DNS server. I did the setup like describben in the Parallels Knowlege Base:
KB Parallels: Plesk server is running as primary DNS server. How can I setup a secondary (slave) DNS server?

Unfortionatly that article is unclear wether or not the Plesk-Box's DNS is notifying the Secondary DNS Server of changes. I would like my secondary DNS to be notified by the master DNS on the Plesk box.

In this Forum thread, I would like to get Feedback wether or not PLESK 9.2 is supporting such a "Notify Secondary DNS" Feature when running with BIND. Does anybody know or is looking as well? Maybe some forumadmin can provide more details?

If this is suported, I would like to know if this feature can be controlled (e.g. enabled) via the Plesk Web-Interface or not. If the Webinterface supports such an option I would dare to know where to nagivate to that option.

If this is not supported I would like to know how I can make changes to the BIND configuration sothat those changes are not overwritten by Plesk Jobs / Tasks. I want to know this because I would like to enable the Notification permanently for (I think every) domain running on that box.

[UPDATE #1]:
It looks like the ACL Interface in Plesk for DNS as describben in the KB article is actually allowing access from the secondary server to the master server. The secondary server did update itself to the master server in my case on initialisation. I have no data to confirm that data of new domains are synched as well available. I'm still waiting for the worldwide DNS system to accept the PLESK servers DNS server as root server for that domain. That might take an additional ~12-36 hours.

[UPDATE #2]:
DNS propagation is making progress, because of a non-Plesk-related error of mine, this will take some additional hours to go through. After that I can run tests and update this thread.

[UPDATE #3]:
DNS-Propagation is over now, all servers I was able to test on do accept the new master (Plesk). A test domain will be created now to check wether or not the secondary server will be automatically updated. If so, this is a sign that the master server notifies the secondary server automatically. This did not happen within the first 5 minutes, I will do a check in 3 or so hours again.

I'm unsure when/how the updates work. It might be helpfull to re-configure a secondory DNS system so that it refreshes to master regardless of any configuration.
