How to add services for plesk management

I have a custom chat server set up with init.d and I would like to be able to start/stop and check status via plesk. What is the easiest way to do this? I looked into creating a module but I am having a difficult time finding any tutorials or examples that are very helpful. I copied the .sh script install example from the mod guide, but when I try to install with modulemng it says that the file is not a valid Plesk package. Is a module the only way to add control of a service to plesk? If so, are there any examples, templates, or tutorials for creating a module so that I don't have to start from scratch?
