How to create protected directories on subdomains?

how is it possible to create proteced directories on _subdomains_ via Plesk?

Manually add .htaccess.

In other words: It isn't possible via Plesk?

This means, the domain user must have shell access to create htpasswd files, .htpasswd file cannot live in a directory above document root - not the best solution...
It seems I must write my own tool

Of couse .htaccess can be created in any directory under DOCUMENT_ROOT - you don't need SHELL access to do that - just a simple FTP upload will do it.

But search the forum for the solution - if I remember correctly there's been written about it a couple of times.

It can still be managed by Plesk - only thing you need to do "manualy" is to upload the .htaccess file - the rest can be controled by Plesk.
