• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

How to switch to Power User Panel with existing Customer Accounts?

I Upgraded from version 9.5.2 to 10.0.1.

I use Plesk for a time now and created several websites. I upgraded to Plesk 10 and have now trouble creating new Domains. Then I found out about the Power User Panel, which is exactly what I need as I don't need the reseller functions. Unfortunately when I try to turn on the Power User Panel, the following error message shows up:

[email protected]:~$ sudo /opt/psa/bin/poweruser --on -ip xx.xx.xx.xx -domain domain.com
It is impossible to enable the power user mode because there are customer accounts created in the Panel.

How can I enable the Power User Panel and keep my current configuration?

The whole idea is to supply Power User with a panel not cluttered with Subscriptions, Service Plans and other related logic, but still providing full system/backend power of Plesk. Power User mode can be switched on before initial configuration via CLI or API.

Hi Igor,
I want to turn the Power User Panel, but I currently have some domains configured because I upgraded an existing version-9-installation. But the error message shown above prevents me from activating the Power User Panel. Any ideas how to activate and migrate the data from the normal panel to the power panel?

I think that you should install new Plesk 10 server, enable Power User there and migrate domains from old server. You can't enable it now because:

* There is no hierarchy of user accounts specific to shared hosting: no resellers, no customers.
* There are no service plans, subscriptions, and limits on amounts of resources consumed by websites.

but you have it on your server now and Plesk can't remove it for already existing domains/clients/subscriptions.

Igor, FYI for anyone coming back to this thread through search.

Scouring the admin guides, I just found this which solved my problem with the Mammoth system of subscriptions/resellers/customers.

Poweruser mode CAN be switch on off at will, even after your domains have been imported from an earlier installation.

The only requirement is that there are no "customers" in the database. I had one (from old testing), and so the poweruser command complained and stopped me initially. I deleted the customer, and voila Poweruser mode switching is enabled. (All my domains were already owned by the administrator account, not by the dummy customer).

This removed the whole complexity of shared hosting functionality (plans/subscriptions/resellers/customers), and left me with only a Power user interface, which is basically the domain control panel with two extra tabs. One for Server control, and another for web-spaces.

UNFORTUNATELY. As mentioned, being Power User lands me permanently in the normal user control panel interface (the little puny 860px stripe in the middle of my screen), which is discussed at length in other threads. :) Waiting on a fix for that.

BTW, Igor.. I tried a quick edit of the CSS just in Firefox CSS edit, just on the width of the control panel elements (changing 860px to a 100% version basically), and that almost fixes the problem. All the elements are already setup for floating, and that nicely removed the issue of having to scroll below the fold to see the necessary actions. Everything floated right upwards as I was typing. :)

Some additional changes are necessary to make sure that the tabs and lines line up correctly and don't float around too much, but basically, if one of your designers took a quick stab at creating a "wide version" of the current "Default" skin, they should be able to provide us with such a screen-utilizing skin in less than a few shakes. No need to allocate time for a full skin design, graphics dessign, ..., ..., as a full skin development might otherwise require.
