Indexing protected directories

Hi,
I´m having problems getting directory indexing to work with a protected directory.
I want the user who logs in to see the files which are on the server.
Tried putting a .htaccess and .htpasswd in the directory but still get code 403. I set up the protected dir. in plesk (7.5.4) and also a user. There is no option to allow dir. indexing in Plesk......

Any help would be great.
