The APS Catalog has been deprecated and removed from all Plesk Obsidian versions. Applications already installed from the APS Catalog will continue working. However, Plesk will no longer provide support for APS applications.
Please be aware: with the Plesk Obsidian 18.0.78 release, the support for the ngx_pagespeed.so module will be deprecated and removed from the sw-nginx package.
I need to make a backup of every server to update the Plesk control panel for the new version. Is it possible using the Plesk backup option? Instructions?
Have you tried Tooles & Settings > Backup Manager? This should enable you to backup all websites including their configuration, emails, mailboxes, databases.
If you want to backup a complete server, backup consists of many individual steps. You will not only have to backup all files on the server (e.g. by rsync), but you need to backup boot manager and partition data, too. Backups need to be done to another server or FTP storage space. This is far beyond the scope of Plesk. Please consult a Linux expert for assistance on backing up Linux machines.
Most users do not backup their machines, because OS and Plesk can easily be re-installed from images and autoinstallers. Normally it should be sufficient to backup Plesk contents and configuration completely using the Plesk backup manager. In a total disaster recovery scenario the time to reinstall a server and restore a full backup through Plesk is about the same as reinstalling a server from an individual backup of partitions, boot manager, file backups.
In a situation where it is necessary to reinstall the operating system and Plesk, will sending the backup made by Plesk backup manager to the new installation work well?
From 0 to 100% what is the chance of success?
It will be almost 100%. A small remaining portion that might not work is very rarely some passwords of mailboxes that need to be reset to new values after a restore under some circumstances. Roundcube and Horde address books, calendar etc. will also not be recovered, because they are not included in the backup. All other stuff will probably be recovered perfectly.
