We're a running a couple of server with Pleask Pannel version 11.0.9 Update #48 and CentOS 5.5 (final).

It's safe update CentOS to 5.9 version using

yum update

?

As I can read on release notes, support for 5.9 was added on update 34... http://download1.parallels.com/Ples...-11-linux-updates-release-notes.html#1109MU34

It is more related to fresh installation.
You can upgrade OS on system where Plesk already installed only on your own risk.
