log rotation and awstats

I am just wondering how awstats works as far as my log files go. does awstats read the log files nightly for the previous day and then be done with the log file?

My reasoning is, I would like to setup log rotation but do not want to remove any logs if they are needed by awstats for me to be able to look back at statistics from the past.

Thanks

anyone have an idea of how often I can rotate (delete) my log files and have it not affect anything such as awstats?

Awstats creates its own "summary" files from the logs. The next time awstats updates, it will only look at the new data. So, after it has looked at the raw logs, it has no use for them.
