• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.
  • We’re working on enhancing the Monitoring feature in Plesk, and we could really use your expertise! If you’re open to sharing your experiences with server and website monitoring or providing feedback, we’d love to have a one-hour online meeting with you.

mail stuck in queue

New Pleskian
Apologies if this is the wrong place to post.

I have recently moved from 1and1 shared hosting packages to a 1and1 virtual cloud server running plesk onyx on linux and i have noticed that all the mail from contact forms on the sites has stopped. But only when the recipient email address matches a domain hosted on the server. i.e. if the site example.com is hosted on the server the mail to [email protected] ends up as 'deferred' in the mail queue, but if i add my personal hotmail.com address to the form it sends fine.

The email addresses ([email protected]) all exist either in the 1and1 account as webmail addresses or in some cases on external email servers ( MS exchange or client hosted servers).

I have turned off the mail service on the domains through plesk but i'm new to plesk and server admin of this level and 1and1 just keep telling me its the mail scripts not an issue with the server setup. (I'm assuming BS as it sends to non domain addresses)

Anyone had/got any experience in solving this type of problem?

Thanks

Hi kenny dow,

welcome to the Plesk Community forum.
As a newbie in server administration, I recommend to read the Plesk documentation, which informs you very precisely about configuration and usage:

Example to start:

If you still experience issues/errors/problems, pls. don't forget to include informations about your current operating system, the depending mail - server in use and last but not least, depending log - file entries and configuration files, so that people willing to help you have something to start with their investigations. ;)

Recommend commands over your command line ( logged in as user "root" over SSH ):
Code:
plesk version
and
Code:
plesk installer --select-product-id plesk --select-release-current --show-components --show-options

Ok that was the guide I used for the initial setup. All mail boxes hosted directly on the server all work perfectly its out going mail sharing a domain name on the server.

The server details are as below (following your commands above)

I also sent a test email from the contact form on my site to 3 email addresses, @principledigital is a webmail in the 1and1 account, @principleconsulting is a MS exchange account hosted by MS, and my hotmail address.
Both principledigital and principleconsulting have sites hosted on the server, only the hotmail.com email arrived.

to my eye it looks like a problem talking to the 1and1 mail server but have no idea if that's correct or how to fix it.

Been through so many help and tutorial pages now and none seem to solve the issue.

ace!! It now works thank you so much.

For anyone who finds this in the future.
I went into the 1and1 cloud panel to public ip and added the server host to the reverse DNS then turned off mail service in plesk on the affected domains.

Hello Plesk Team,
After some googling, I have found that it is not easy process to setup Plesk to send emails through external services.
Will it be hard to make a module which works as SMTP relay only for outgoing mails?
Thanks in advance.

This can be considered with a sufficiently large number of requests for such functionality within the corresponding Plesk UserVoice feature request.

Hi and sorry for bring this thread up again...

I am also new with a 1&1 Cloud Server and Plesk Onyx and my mail server seems not to work correctly...

I let the server in his standard configuration, added the domains and also new E-mail adresses. I have also checked the mail server settings with the manual from UFHH01's link and set the Reverse DNS in the 1&1-Cloud Panel to the domain.

But this all have not solved my problem:
1. no mails will received to the server
2. all mails sent from the server are not sent and are hanging in the queue

Please, can somebody help me....

Here are the the infos from the both commands, posted by UFHH01:
