Question Moving domain directory to a different location

Is it possible to move the directory of a domain to a different location?
After our hoster upgraded Plesk we have quite a number of additional folders in the Home directory. We therefor consider moving all domain directories to a subfolder under Home directory called domains and adjust to hosting settings accordingly after they were created. Is this possible? discouraged? recommended? Is there an impact on nginx proxying? PHP?
