Please can you confirm the MySQL default character set configuration that PLESK 8.6 installer creates?

I believe that it is UTF-8, is that correct?

If so, is it safe to change it without causing any PLESK components to fail?

I ask because I have a PHP script that will not install because the SQL fails when run against a MySQL database using UTF-8 defaults.
