PHP manual re-install on a server running plesk and plesk upgrade

Hello,

FreeBSD OS Version: 5.3

My problem with install pear is still not solved...

What I'v gathered from all the support I'v asked for, on IRC and everywhere... people tell me to;

- Do a manual de-install of php/pear

and

- Do a manual re-install of a latest version of php with pear support

1) Is that recommended?

2) Is there a way to repair php/pear from within plesk? Some management utility (binary) that will repair/re-install php/pear?

3) After we got plesk 7.5.4 reloaded installed on our fbsd 5.3 server, an update for plesk was released by plesk people. Is it safe to upgrade plesk?
