pigz - server unreachable

Hello,

since Plesk uses Pigz my websites are offline daily for a few minutes - I wonder if theres any possibility to reduce the number of cores Pigz uses or if I can switch to another packing tool which doesn't utilize all cores, so my websites and other services are not unavailable?

You can try to remove pigz package with --nodeps option. gzip will be used instead of pigz in this case.

what is the exact command, apt-get remove --nodeps and --no-deps dont exist.

Use --ignore-depends=packagename option for dpkg package manager.

dpkg: error: need an action option

Tried dpkg --ignore-depends=pigz remove pigz but doesnt work either.

With "dpkg" you have to define the whole package name... i.e. "pigz_2.2.4-3_amd64.deb" .

apt-get remove --nodeps pigz​

and i cant find the exact package name of pigz.

you might use the "--nodeps" string AFTER the packagename as well if the first suggestion didn't work for you.

Apart from this, it is much easier for people willing to help you, if you would provide informations about your operating system , so that it might be possible to guess, which pigz - package you might use.

ii pigz 2.2.4-3 amd64 Parallel Implementation of GZip

apt-get remove --force-yes pigz
This will force apt-get to remove the selected package, without paying attention to errors/warnings.​

dpkg -P --force-depends pigz_2.2.4-3_amd64 .deb
This will as well remove config - files for this package and will turn errors into warnings.
