  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.

Plesk 11.0.9 auto upgraded nginix to 1.5

FilippoN

New Pleskian
Hello,
we have two identical servers with Plesk 11.0.9 (RHEL 6.4).

We discovered that one of them, for no apparent reason, upgraded itself to nginix 1.5 (from 1.3) on June 16 2013 around 4:13AM GMT+1.

This is the log from yum:

Updated sw-nginx-1.3.0-1.12122721.rhel6.x86_64 @NGINX_1_3_0-dist
Update 1.5.0-1.13060711.rhel6.x86_64 @NGINX_1_5_0-dist

And this is the log from the action log of Plesk:

127.0.0.1 admin [2013-06-16 04:13:15] 'Plesk component upgrade' ('Plesk component name': 'nginx' => 'nginx')

1) Why this has happened? nginx for Plesk 11.0.9 must be 1.3 as far as I know
2) How we can downgrade nginx to the stable 1.3 ?

Thanks in advance.

1) Third-party components are updated from time to time by Parallels.

2a) nginx 1.5.0 in Plesk is exactly the same as stable nginx 1.4.1 if you look at nginx changelog or commits history. Also nginx development versions have a good record of being stable enough to be used in production.

2b) I don't see why would you want to downgrade it. It is technically possible, but it will be upgraded again with next panel update.

Just use nginx 1.5.0. You'll like it.

Thanks for your answer Nikolay.

The fact is that the default Nginx for Plesk 11.0.9 as far as I know is 1.3.0 and this is what we have on one of the two servers.

What I don't understand is why Plesk has updated Nginx of only one server, why not both?

Our provider has several servers with the same set-up and no one has been updated, they all are Plesk 11.0.9 with Nginx 1.3.0.

Thanks in advance for your reply,
Filippo

I suspect that simply because auto-update simply did not run on other servers yet. It usually runs once a week (in a random time, so your servers won't update all at once).

No, it is not that. We forced updates on other servers and no one got an updated Nginx, all of them stay on Nginx 1.3.0 which, I repeat, I think is the standard Nginx of Plesk 11.0.9

The strange thing, in my opinion, is that one of them got upgraded to 1.5.0 not that the other are still not updated...

Any thought on this from Parallels employee? Thanks.

stay on Nginx 1.3.0 which, I repeat, I think is the standard Nginx of Plesk 11.0.9

I hope you'll forgive my assertive tone, but there is no "standard" nginx version for Plesk 11.0.9.

Then the difference is due to temporary misconfiguration at download site.

Why would you worry so much anyway? nginx 1.5.0 is delicious. If you want to downgrade, the safest way is to disable nginx, deinstall sw-nginx package, then install nginx support again via Autoinstaller and enable nginx in Panel!

Thanks Nikolay.
Following your reasoning I should not downgrade and expect soon to see an updated Nginx also on the other server, correct?

I'm not 100% sure, but I would expect to see nginx 1.5.0 in Plesk 11.0.9 some time in the future, after it is "tested" on Plesk 11.5 users. "tested" being in quotes since I believe it is quite stable already.
