  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.

Plesk 12 and BIND and Nameservers

Ben McGuire

New Pleskian
Hi there,

This is my first post and i have given up trying to work it out. I have spent the past week trying to get this to work.

What I am trying to do is the following:-

I have a VPS with Plesk 12 installed and wish to run my own nameservers as I would like my hosting customers to use ns1.mydomain.com

I have my domain registered with Enom so I can change nameserver settings at any time.

I have a few questions:-
When Plesk is installed and Bind is running it appears that it does not answer to DNS queries from external clients. I have looked at the named.conf file and it appears that Plesk by default has given queries just to the localhost on port 953. Shouldnt this be port 53 DNS? And If I am running my own DNS server wouldnt the named.conf file need to be "any" not just localhost?

Now to get this up and running all I need to do is create ns1.mydomain.com in Plesk DNS and create and A record as well as a NS record then go to Enom and change nameserver to ns1.mydomain.com?

Can this work just with one nameserver? I will add more later but just want to get one up and running first.

I am running Centos 7 and Cloudlinux.

Also Can I disable IPV6?

Any help would be highly appreciate as I have spent the past week and I am pulling my hair out trying to get this to work.

If you wish I will post the config of named.conf and anything else you require.

Thanks
Ben

I have provided screen shots of the named.conf and one other.
