plesk 7.5.4 to plesk 8.1 backup restore problems

I have upgraded from plesk 7.5.4 to plesk 8 and had done a site by site backup on my server before doing so, but to my horror "as i have read on this forum" you cant restore a site using the previous backup..

that means all my files are useless, can someone please help me and let me know how to either open the mime backup file or better how to restore the files..

your help would be very much appreciated...

plesk backup files can be used on specific plesk version only. I.e. backup of 7.5 can be restored on 7.5 only, backup of 8.1 can be restored on 8.1 only - just because plesk internal structure and plesk database formats are different..

The simplest way in your situation is to install separate 7.5 server temporarily, restore your backup there and then migrate accounts to new server with migration manager..

the only thing you need to have to do this - get 7.5 plesk license for your 7.5 temporary server.. Try to describe situation to SWsoft sales and ask for 1-week trial license for 7.5..

i do have another server with 7.5.4 installed on it but it wont let me install the backups on this server due to the certifiacte, i have also followed instructions on another forum on this website and that doesnt work either..

i have my servers with the poorly supported 1and1.co.uk so i dont have the option to install 7.5 with them, any other ideas??

You'll need to do some searching on these forums (in the Plesk 7.5 forums specifically) on how to manually extract from the Plesk 7.5 backups and then manually restore your data. Gonna be a bear tho. Best is to find a fully functional 7.5 box and see if you can restore there and migrate to the 8.1 box.

i have been through the forums and everything i have tried has not worked..

because it is a different server with a fully working plesk 7.5 installation working it keeps saying something about the certificate...
