Plesk 8.0 to 8.3 upgrade

Regular Pleskian
Hi,

I have a new dedicated server, Fedora Core 4 with Plesk 8.0.

The 1st time it was installed, I made an upgrade to Plesk 8.3. This worked perfecly. Then I wanted to try another distribution, without plesk, so it has been re-imaged from scratched.

As the plesk preconfigured distribution seemed to be want I needed, I re-imaged the server back to FC4 with Plesk 8.0. Since then, everytime I try to upgrade to Plesk 8.3, it fails. But I get no failure, nothing. It hangs on road without any error message, even in the log.

However, I get a php error when I try to login:

Warning: require_once(api-common/cu.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /usr/local/psa/admin/plib/cmd_loginup.php on line 13

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'api-common/cu.php' (include_path='/usr/local/psa/admin/plib:/usr/local/psa/admin/javascripts:/usr/local/psa/admin/plib/locales:/usr/local/psa/admin/auto_prepend:/usr/local/psa/admin/htdocs/domains/databases/phpMyAdmin:/usr/local/psa/admin/htdocs/domains/databases/phpPgAdmin') in /usr/local/psa/admin/plib/cmd_loginup.php on line 13

Can anyone tell me how to troubleshoot ? What should I do ? I'm lost in here. I have reimage de server 4 times, with the same result. Obviously, that would be no option if it was in production :-(

I have attached the log file. Also I have some .lcck files in the folder (I guest these are semaphores and should not appear if the upgrade is completed)

Thank you for any advice.

rpm hanged

I've just made one more try... But this time, I installed all the updates for 8.0.1, then went to 8.1.0 and launched then the update to 8.2.0 hoping that going step by step would solve the issue.

But I have an issue that might explain the final result... rpm hangs during installation.

When I try to install anything else with rpm, I get the following message:

warning: waiting for transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/__db.000

That is the same message I had when trying to reinstall 8.3 over 8.3 after upgrade failed.

How to troubleshoot ???

howto

Hi,
firstly check what version do you have now, with rpm -q psa, cat /usr/local/psa/version

Check if you are able to login to mysql.

Provide information here or PM

Hi Tiramisu. Thank your attention on this.

# rpm -q psa

psa-8.1.0-fc4.build81061129.22
psa-8.2.0-fc4.build82070706.15
psa-8.2.1-fc4.build82070918.10

# cat /usr/local/psa/version

8.2.1 FedoraCore 4 82070918.10

Yes I can connect to the mySQL database as I made a locale changes right now based on this document: http://kb.swsoft.com/en/3526 to switch my language pack to french.

This is driving me nuts...

I have removed PSA according to the documentation after having made a backup.

I have then upgraded to FC 5. I have downloaded the new autoinstaller for FC5. And I get now the following message:

Setting the default locale

ERROR while trying to set up default locale: cannot read '/usr/local/psa/admin/htdocs/locales/default'

Aborting...

System error 2: No such file or directory

WTF now ??? !!! The "locales" folder exist but there is nothing inside...

hm, smth bad happened, there could be problems during upgrade

check /tmp/autoinstall3.log and /tmp/psa/* logs for errors

also I would recommend you to backup your plesk database psa with mysqldump

and you are right, you need to fix the reason and install packages, it is better to install them manually from distrib

let me know what is the current status

Hi again. Tx for your suggestions.

In autoinstaller3.log, I can see many times "try to find rcfile... Autoinstaller fcfile not found. Is this a problem ?

Setting the default locale

At the end of the file, I get the following messages:

ERROR while trying to set up default locale: cannot read '/usr/local/psa/admin/htdocs/locales/default'
Check the error reason(see log file: /tmp/psa_8.3.0_fc5.build83071218.20_installing.080312.11.01.log), fix and try again

Aborting...

God... There's plenty of errors in that file....

See next post
(why the hell is the forum limited to 10000 char per message ?)

Some are about the locale packages !! Why this script doesn't stop there ! instead of going forward and stopping later for a related issue :-(

So now... There a lot of conflicts. How can I easily address these ones ? Because if I must remove each conflicting package hand by hand one after one, might need some time :-(

I know how to make a script easily based on the log output (just don't know how to make the header for bash to execute it correctly)... But still. Isn't there a kind of "yum resolve conflict" or "rpm resolve conflict" in FC 5 ? :-D

Hi again,

I finally worked around the problems by reinstalling my server with a FC6 distribution, and then installing Plesk 8.3 directly (my server is not yet on prod, and have no data... Just a new dedicated with a preinstalled FC4+Plesk 8.0)

So far, everything is fine. I also was able to restore the two domains and one client I created as a test...

So. For me, issue is closed :-D

Cheers

and thanks for your help
