Plesk resets subdomain forwards and file permissions by syncing hosting plan

Product:______Plesk Panel
Version:______10.4.4 MU#27
OS:__________Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit

I configured some subdomains for a domain which were forwarded (standard) to other domains and/or folders. The domain was created using the default hosting plan named "Unlimited". Another day I wondered why all of the created subdomains forwarded to the root (httpdocs) of the domain. So all of the forward settings were lost and resetted. The hosting type of the subdomains was resetted to "Website hosting" instead of "Standard forwarding". Further all file permissions of a Typo3 installation changed to the domain ftp-user...

To reproduce it I did the following:

=================
SCENARIO I
=================
Created file:______var/www/vhosts/domain.tld/httpdocs/test.html
Permissions:______rwxrwxr--
User/Group:______www-data/www-data
Ftp user:_________ftpusername

Domain:_________var/www/vhosts/www.domain.tld
domain.tld:_______hosting plan "Unlimited", NOT locked for sycing

Created subdomain:___var/www/vhosts/test.domain.tld
Type:_______________Website hosting
Home:______________/site1

So everything normal - domain with normal subdomain and the test file with different permissions than standard.

After it I tried to change the type of the subdomain from "Website hosting" to "Standard forwarding". I entered "http://www.google.de" for testing.

RESULT I a):
------------

Google translation:
Error: Restoring the DNS zone is not possible: <subdomain> When you add the entry. IN A 1.2.3.4 An error occurred: There were given incorrect DNS entry values.

Entered the config mask for the subdomain and clicked ok, now the new forward settings were saved correctly.

STATUS NOW:
-----------
Subdomain:______var/www/vhosts/test.domain.tld
Type:___________Standard forwarding
Forward:_________http://www.google.de

AND NOW I checked out the extraordinary special function:
Choosing "Service Plans" in left menu, choosing packet "Unlimited" from "Hosting Plans" changed NOTHING* but clicking the button "Update & Syc" and voila... I proudly present

* it doesn't make a difference wether you change something or not, result I b) persists

RESULT I b):
------------
File:____________var/www/vhosts/domain.tld/httpdocs/test.html
Permissions:______rw-r--r-- (!)
User/Group:______ftpusername.psacln (!)

subdomain:______var/www/vhosts/test.domain.tld
Type:___________Website hosting (!)
Home:___________/httpdocs (!)

U SEE THE DIFFERENCES?
file permissions___= reset
user/group_______= reset
Hosting type______= reset
Doc root_________= reset

Extremely fatal if you got a whole Typo3 installation with more than one test file and where some files need to have different file permissions.

Now another check:

=================
SCENARIO II
=================

Created file:______var/www/vhosts/domain.tld/httpdocs/test.html
Permissions:______rwxrwxr--
User/Group:______www-data/www-data
Ftp user:_________ftpusername

Domain:__________var/www/vhosts/www.domain.tld
domain.tld:________hosting plan "Unlimited", NOT locked for sycing

Created subdomain:___var/www/vhosts/test.domain.tld
Type:_______________Website hosting
Home:______________/httpdocs/img

In this case I did NOT change the subdomain type from "Website hosting" to "Standard forwarding".
I performed the same "Update & Syc" procedure with the packet "Unlimited" like above and this is

RESULT II:
------------
Everything fine. Plesk didn't touch my test file and didn't change the home diretory of the subdomain. That's what I expect!

=================
CONCLUSION:
=================

Plesk changes file permissions of all(!) files in httpdocs (and in included directories) of the domain
AND
resets subdomain forwards to default (Website hosting)
IF there exists
just one subdomain of the type "Standard forwarding",
the domain is unlocked for syncing
AND
you perform "Update & Syc" for the connected "Hosting Plan".

I DON'T want Plesk to touch my files even if I use subdomain forwards. And YES I DO want to use the "Update & Syc" feature, not for the packet "Unlimited" but for others. This strange behaviour also exists using other packets from "Hosting Plans".

Is it a bug or a special Plesk subdomain feature behaviour nobody asked for? Or did I misunderstand the new concept of the panel? This isn't version 10.0 - it's 10.4.4. So what's going on here?

I watched several logs but found none where such actions were stored in. Which logfile should probably log those changes, does any?

Please Parallels debug this Feature if it's not my fault....

Maybe someone from Parallels???? MAYBE some reaction?

This bug shouldn't be ignored - it's a massive thing!

Oder soll ich den Kram noch mal auf deutsch schreiben, damit die Info oben ankommt?

Redirection problem

Hi all,
When I change the type of hosting of a subdomain to a redirection, the redirection works correctly, by cons if I update and synchronize the hosting package which depends on the domain, the subdomain automatically returns to the standard httpdocs folder.

Screenshots:
Step 1 : Creation of the redirection

Step 2: Update of the hosting package

Step 3: The redirection still not exist

Informations:
OS: Debian 6.0.5
Parallels Panel version: 11.0.9 Update #10

Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter
Morgan

It is correct behaviour because your server plan has standard hosting and corresponding subscriptions will be synchronized with settings of service plan. Use special service plan without hosting for such type of subdomains.

Hi IgorG,
Thank your for your answer.

How can I choose a special service plan without hosting for such type of subdomains? Because when an customer create a subdomain he doesn't have the choise of the service plan.

Regards

Hi,
I've make some search on the manual and makes tests but the only solution work is to lock the concerned account.
I've also try to create an server plan without hosting, and create an addon with the hosting plan but the problem is alway present.

All the rest of my configuration works correctly.

Thanks,
Morgan

Same here. Its really annoying with subdomains redirecting to external sites being reset every time the hosting plan is synced. Please buxfix soon!

Same here on Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS, Plesk 11.0.9 Update #10.

Customers are really annoyed about their subdomains redirecting to external sites via normal redirection being reset if I as a Server Administrator update and sync the hosting plan. Right now I'm updating the subdomain redirections manually every time a sync has been completed, but this isn't comfortable at all!

Please fix this matter or add an equivalent feature for these kind of subdomains not to change to "httpdocs" after syncing. For detailled information concerning this problem, another Plesk user already posted a detailled log with Plesk version 10: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?p=637848

Kernel: 3.5.3
Charset: UTF-8
Parallels Panel version: 11.0.9 Update #10

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
When I change the type of hosting of a subdomain to a redirection, the redirection works correctly, by cons if I update and synchronize the hosting package which depends on the domain, the subdomain automatically returns to the standard httpdocs folder but the records still presents into the forwarding MySQL table of plesk.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
- Create hosting plan
- Add a domain with this plan
- Add a subdomain
- Alter the type of the subdomain to Forwarding url
- Synchronize the hosting plan

ACTUAL RESULT
- The subdomain is reset to standard hosting with the root path httpdocs.

EXPECTED RESULT
- The subdomain keep the forwarding

ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A few years ago when I was already using plesk panel, the problem was not present.

Enclosed an example of my hosting plan.

Thanks. I have submitted request to developers. Let's wait their answer. I will keep this thread updated with results.

Thank you for fixing this.

How do I force Plesk to update immediately? This is a very serious security vulnerability; it allows users to download raw PHP files. For instance, a WordPress configuration file, containing database connectivity information.

Have you read Installation Instructions in the mentioned KB article?

I did figure it out eventually, thanks. Here, have some feedback:

I didn't even notice the link to the installation instructions in KB115179. It would have been more helpful if it had been above the list of changes.

After clicking through to the installation instructions, KB9294, the first thing my eyes fell upon were the sentences, "Micro-update functionality is avaialble in Parallels Plesk Panel (PP) 8.6, 9.5.x and 10.x. You should run the Parallels AutoInstaller to select and install available Micro-updates. Also, in PP 9.5.x and 10.x, the functionality is available from the Panel under Updates section." There is no mention of 11.x. It's mentioned in the list of applicable platforms, but the article itself is out-of-date.

On the Parallels Panel home page, where it says "The system is up-to-date; last checked at _____", it would be nice either to have a "Check Now" link, or to have the "Add or Remove Components" link below it replaced by a "Updates and Upgrades" link – far more useful, considering the context.
