• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.
  • We’re working on enhancing the Monitoring feature in Plesk, and we could really use your expertise! If you’re open to sharing your experiences with server and website monitoring or providing feedback, we’d love to have a one-hour online meeting with you.

Resolved Plesk System Updater Not Working

Aaron2020

New Pleskian
I seem to have been experiencing issues with the system updater on the server since the 1st of December 2020.

The server will not pull in any Plesk updates or package updates whatsoever. Initially the error was only displayed with the following message in the GUI "Error: Unable to receive update information for the package(s)". After assigning my email address in the GUI I was able to receive a more detailed message regarding the error. I've pasted this message below:

"Hello,
Some problems occurred with the System Updates tool on your server pumasolutions.co.uk. Please resolve them manually.

Reason: 2021-02-09 03:22:32 INFO: pum is called with arguments: ['--list', '--repo-info', '--json']
2021-02-09 03:22:32 ERROR: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: base. Please verify its path and try again
2021-02-09 03:22:32 ERROR: Exited with returncode 1."

As we currently can't update our systems either I thought it would be best to include current versions below:

Plesk Obsidian: Version 18.0.31 Update #2, last updated on Dec 1, 2020 03:46 AM
Cent OS: 6.10 (Final)

My experience with servers is unfortunately incredibly limited, but I have also tried logging via SSH and running the command "yum update -y". Unfortunately this didn't have the desired effect of magically helping!

Thank you for your quick response, I've contacted the company we rent the server from and will be looking at upgrading the OS.

Possibly a bit of a stupid question to ask but do you reckon upgrading to CentOS 7 would be the best move from here or is there another OS that would be better suited with respects to longevity?

Plesk does not support CentOS distupgrade.
In my opinion, migration is the best way. You can migrate not necessarily to CentOS, but also to Ubuntu or Debian if you think this is the best choice.

I've had a chat with the company that we rent the server from, they've given us two options at the moment.

The first option they've offered being a server rebuild with CentOS 7 as the base OS and then restoring our server from a Plesk backup.

I've had a chat with the company regarding migration and the second option they've offered being to rent out a new server with CentOS 7, Ubuntu or Debian as the base OS and then using the Plesk Migration Extension Tool to pull over all of the data and configurations from our current server.

Definitely agree that migration would be the best option, certainly want to try and mitigate any down time that our customers would have to deal with as we swap over to a different server. Thank you very much for your help in this matter, it is greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone.

I have been suffering exactly the same situation, however, my server OS is Debian, not CentOS.

Please help
Try to fix it with

# plesk installer --select-release-id PLESK_18_0_28 --upgrade-installed-components

First, apologies for replying late, I only did not see the instruction before. Clumsy I know, but that is what happened.
I have just tried the solution but it did not work. You will have noticed I am not too familiar with Plesk, even so, I do not understand why the information in my dashboard should be wrong. I case you think of another solution, I shall be most grateful if you can help.

When I try to fix with
# plesk installer --select-release-id PLESK_18_0_28 --upgrade-installed-components

the message I get is

ERROR: There is no product with ID '<default=plesk>' at the installation source.
Run Plesk Installer with the --show-releases option or the 'list' command to get the list of products and their latest releases available for installation. Use the --show-all-releases option or the 'list-all' command to get the list of all products and their releases from the installation source.

and when I run
plesk installer --show-all-releases

I see no sign of 18_0_28 displayed on the dashboard, but I get
