• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Plesk Updater not working

Before adding any sites to my new plesk 8 package, I wanted to make sure I have the most recent code...
Therefore I logged in to the plesk CP with the root user and went to
System > Server > Updater
On that page it shows me the available releases (actually only one) and I click "Plesk 8.0.0"
Now i arrive at the "Plesk 8.0.0 Components" page that lists all components and 10 are marked as "out of date".
From those 10 there are 5 already checked and they cannot be unckecked.
Then I click install and plesk starts loading the page...

Now here's the problem, it keeps loading forever untill the page times out or I see a plesk error message like "Service not available" or I get logged out and get relocated to the login screen...

I've tried several times and looked in the updater log file that is created in the /tmp dir, but No error was displayed...
I also see that files are stored in the /root/psa/ dir

This is the unacceptable answer from my support:
Greetings,

Unfortunately, if you used Plesk Updater, your Plesk installation is now destroyed.

We will reinstall your server for you, and then you can start once again to setup your sites. Please do not ever use Plesk Updater, Windows Update, up2date, or any other such 'updater' feature on a VPS server, it will destroy the VPS

Regards,

I have ordered a VPS trough a hspcomplete cp that runs plesk 8 under Virtuozzo... So all soft is SW... How come this doesn't work...

Who in the holy freaking hell responded to your question in this manner?

Do you have access to a VPS snapshot or remote FTP storage?

Also, the updater has been consistantly more efficient.

That is pure ingorance and laziness on their part.

Are you freakin serious?

This is a response from the support team...

I worked with plesk before, but VPS is quite new to me...
So I don't really know what you call VPS snapshot or remote FTP storage

all I can say is that in plesk, I have the virtuozzo link
And after clicking maintenance I see I have 1 backup...
and my maximum allowed backups is reached...

So I guess that is what you call the snapshot...

when was your backup taken? (snapshot)

Also, seriously your host should not provide a control panel that it fundamentally doesn't understand! Whether or not the VPS is managed, they should still be able to help out and not put the responsability in your hands only..

I was just simply shocked at the response you got from a service provider. They sound like godaddy at this point..

Yep I know... kinda like strange because most of the time I get a swift and quick response from them, but this time not...
I sended them a message again so they can give more explanation...

backup is of Jun 15, 2006 06:53:04 AM
yesterday I got my VPS and I was setting it up and then I wanted to use the updater... but it didn't work...
So the auto-backup only came after that...

Actually, everything on my VPS is working just fine... as far as I can see...
They say the updater brakes my VPS, but no... all just fine...
Only the updater doesn't work at this time...

Can you make anything out of this:
If you update Plesk, it will break. I advise you not to do this on your VPS in the future, or it will break & you will have extremely large problems to resolve it.

Regarding this;

>> latest bug fixes and the security will be vulnerable for attacks...

This is not the case, as the servers are templated and when Plesk updates are available in Virtuozzo template form, they are applied. You must never apply any *.swsoft.* rpm updates, or you will face problems.

Regards
