[Possible?]Separate mailserver with Plesk Panel

I was wondering if it is possible to move the mailserver (SMTP, IMAP, POP3) from Plesk to a different node, while still controlling it within Plesk.

This user assumes it can be done with "a little work", so I was wondering how...

(...) Its really just mail, dns and DB which you could have already done anyways with a little work.

Well... you could as well switch to Plesk Automation and save the time for the "little work" for more interesting things. ^^

Parallels Plesk Automation is far too big for my needs, unfortunately. Also, that person was pointing to a solution without Automation to dedicate the mailserver...

A Plesk server can work without local mail server (web scripts and Plesk notifications will work), but mail service will not be available foe customers (no mailboxes, forwarders, etc):
