• Halloween is coming! To celebrate the occasion, we dusted off a couple of old skins, and even created a brand new one (Pixel).
To get into the festive spirit, install the Skins extension.
  • The new Python extension is now available. It allows customers to deploy and manage WSGI-based Python applications on their websites directly from Plesk.
  • The Plesk Mobile apps for iOS and Android and the Plesk Mobile Center extension have been deprecated, and are no longer available for new installations. In Plesk Obsidian 18.0.84, the Plesk Mobile Center extension will be removed from servers during the upgrade, and the Plesk Mobile apps will lose their server management features.
  • The Social Login extension has been deprecated and will be removed in Plesk Obsidian 18.0.84. After that, it will no longer be possible to log in to Plesk with a Google, Facebook, GitHub account, or with a passkey. Plesk usernames and passwords, as well as logging in with a WebPros Account, are not affected.

How do we prevent the creation of FTP accounts for System Users? FTP access is unwanted/unneeded and just offers an extra, unwanted attack surface. We want to make sure only sftp is used

Hi @Johannes Kingma

As far as I recall, it is possible to set a limit on the number of FTP accounts for a hosting plan assigned to a given domain name. Furthermore, even if a single subscription includes multiple domain names, the total number of FTP accounts can still be restricted to just one.

It this on a shared hosting environment also or on a server you fully administer yourself?

If it's the latter and you goal is to have users only access to the server via sftp, the easiest option is to just block the default FTP ports (20 and 21). That way any System or FTP user can only access the server SFTP and FTPS.

As an administrator you can restrict the creation of additional FTP users via the Service Plan. However the main System User for a subscription (webspace) will always be created as it's the System User associated with a subscription. System Users always have FTP and SFTP (and FTPS) access.

If you're not the administrator of the server, than there isn't much you can do to restrict this.
