In our case resetting the permissions was sufficient to continue and have a successful restore of the backup:

/var/lib/psa/dumps:
drwxr-xr-x 2 psaadm psaadm 4096 Jul 24 10:42 2

Problem solved...

I looked at QoS log file and the backup failures seem to be linked with numfiles limit topping out, to the second, so after speaking to my hosts, they would not increase the limit and said I had to buy the next server level up.

To that end I sacked them off and have gone with another company who use WHM and CPanel, much better.

So is there any fix other than switching to cpanel lol. I have this problem... just paid 1200 for this software and can't even backup

I now have 2 servers that won't backup. Both are 8.3. FTP backups do not work for domains. I see no indication of any attempt to contact the ftp. Perhaps something with the Plesk Firewall Module?
