Problems with SSL and Reverse DNS

g4marc

Basic Pleskian
Hi,
since a view days, i have a problem with sending emails to web.de, aol and freenet.
there are a lot of mails in waiting-loop.
i get one error message from web.de with:

refused to talk to
me: 554-web.de (mxweb108) Nemesis ESMTP Service not available 554-No SMTP
service 554 invalid DNS PTR resource record

my customer has a dedicated IP-adress for SSL certificate, that depends from the shared IP adress for other customers.
but in his DNS-Template, there is a entry for PTR with the correct IP.

also, some mails dont find their way to the postboxes at web.de and aol.com, there are in waiting-loop for a certain time...?
because of a problem with a php-script for one customer i stopped nginx...is there a connection between my problem with reverse DNS resolving?

is there a clou for this?

THX for answer

You do not normally have control over rDNS on your IPs.

Normally it is the company that you rent your server from or the co-lo company where your own server is located that has control over rDNS for your IPs. The PTR record in your own DNS records does not normally come into the equation.

So in order to get an rDNS record set up (and you will need one for each of your IPs) you will need to contact your co-lo/rental company.

Ours has a control panel where you can do this yourself, while the company we used previously needed us to email them. Your company may be different.

Very rarely, for example when you have purchased your own range of IPs direct from RIPE or whoever it is for your country, then you would have direct control over the rDNS. Some co-lo/server rental companies also allow you direct control if you ask for it. But this is rare.
