Publishing to 'temporary' url

we've developed a site with a flash object that does NOT show up during preview.

i'd like to publish the site to a temporary url.

we have a non-sitebuilder site running on the server (say www.xyz.com)

i created the directory for the sitebuilder site in the sitebuilder 'root' - /sitebuilder_sites/abc

the webspace for xyz.com has a directory 'links'

within links i created a symlink: ln -s /sitebuilder_sites/abc abc

i set publishing setting to point to sitebuilder directory and the following url:

http://www.xyz.com/links/abc

and i get:

Error: The site cannot be published to the specified location.
Cannot find site files at http://www.xyz.com/links/abc/. The specified site URL does not match the XCopy settings.

how do i get around this????
