Q: replace rsyslog with syslog-ng?

Kartoffelsack

Basic Pleskian
I'm totally new to plesk and don't completely understand the system configuration yet but I'm an experienced linux-admin. Looking at system's logfiles in /var/log I see those horribly mixed entries in syslog etc. As rsyslog can't be configured in a way I'm used to, I'd like to replace rsyslog with syslog-ng which offers fantastic ways of configuration. But I'm not sure if plesk in any way depends on rsyslog or it's config file.
Any answer would be appreciated.

Well I think if you just installed syslog-ng instead of the default rsyslog then it would work. Otherwise here is a thread where one was using syslog-ng

Thanks for that hint. But just as I thought, there seem to be "special" logfiles used by plesk. Is there any list of such files? And is the list in current rsyslog configuration completed? As I can see by now there is only one such file:
/opt/psa/var/log/maillog. Is there another place for special logfiles?
Or even better: is there any documentation on directory hierarchy layout of plesk installation? I already searched parallel's website and admin guide for plesk 11 but didn't find anything useful. Currently I'm quite confused with logfiles and config files in every corner of the system. Administrating the system running plesk becomes everything but simple. And I'm not new to linux and shell usage.
